  1. On page 178 the third paragraph, "Maybe it's hardwired into us that spring has to do with childhood and youth, summer with adulthood and romance and fulfillment and passion, autumn with decline and middle age and tiredness but also harvest, winter with old age and resentment and death." I chose this because it is so true. I agree with all of it because I feel the same. Spring always makes me feel like everything is blooming, new life starts. When I think of summer I think of summer romances and having so much time. Summer seems endless (from long hours of sunlight and short ours of darkness). Fall is sad to me because summer is over and winter is approaching. Winter always seems so endless which i can see people relating it to old age. When you read things about all these seasons you automatically think these things because all the stories you read make you believe this. All stories are based off these same symbols with these seasons.

  2. Page 177, on the very first line. "Summer is passion and love; winter, anger and hatred." I totally agree with this statement. When I think of summer, I think of vacation, the sun, and falling in love. In books, it always seems that couples get together during the summer. I think this happens because summer is such a happy time where you don't have to worry about school every day. I agree with winter being anger and hatred. I absolutely hate winter and being cold, so I think those words work well with winter.

  3. Page 177, the third paragraph. "She's all spring and sunshine; he's all frosty stiffness. Names you ask. Daisy Miller and Frederic Winterbourne." I totally agree with this. Lots of times writers use the peoples names as hints about their personality and how they act. It is quite obvious here who is all springy and who is all frosty. But overall, I agree with this whole chapter. Spring reminds us of our childhood, summer of love and crushes, fall as the beginning of the end kind of. Fall also reminds me of love and such. But winter is cold and hatred and winter sum it up well. No matter what season is your favorite, these feelings come with it.

  4. Page 180, last paragraph "Will Summer be warm and rich and liberating or hot and dusty and stifling? Will autumn find us toting up our accomplishments or winding down, arriving at wisdom and peace or being shaken by those November winds?" I totally agree with this. I'm pretty sure what his point is, is that seasons can have a number of meanings. Summer can be hot and humid, or sometimes just plain awful...but on the other hand it could be blooming and lovely. Most people think of Winter as being cold and harsh, or the worst time of year...but it's my favorite. Winter makes me think of cuddling up with a blanket because it's cold out, family, Christmas, sharing, your favorite foods...the things that make life great.

  5. The sentences " When King lear is raging in his old man's madness, he's doing it in a winter storm." and "When the young lovers escape to the enchanted woods to sort out their romantic difficulties and thereby take their proper places in the adult world, it is a midsummer night." on page 176 in the 2nd paragraph. I agree completely with winter representing cold, anger, deadness, barren, not happy times. You are not going to be happy if you are cold. Most of my worst memories like my brothers car accident was on thanksgiving night a few years ago, it was FREEZING. Now when i think about spring and summer, I think of it being warm, green, and full of life outside. The clouds are not gloomy, and everything is mostly happy. More of my happy memories are in the summer and spring, while more of my sad memories are of in the winter.

  6. page 177 3rd paragraph,"Maybe it's hardwired into us that spring has to do with childhood and youth, summer with adulthood and romance and fulfillment and passion, autumn with decline and middle age and tiredness but also harvest, winter with old age and resentment and death." i think this is my favorite because really this is what anyone and everyone would think when comparing things to a season. Spring is a start to everything and very lively, Summer being the peak of all things, autumn starting the slow decline down to winter which brings about the end off all things.

  7. Page 180, "Frost speaks in the poem not only of the coming night and his well-earned sleep but of the longer night that is winter and the longer sleep of the woodchuck." This sentence really made me think. Does Frost use the reference to sleep, as in hibernation, or does it have a different meaning? Can sleep have a different meaning, or reference something else? I mainly chose this sentence because its reference can more than one meaning. It could also be talking about winter and what animals have to go through.

  8. Page 178, third paragraph states that "All the great poets know how to use the seasons" I very much so agree with this due to the fact that they are very good at making references to the season to try and get a point across to their readers. i very much so agree with this statement that the authors know how to use the seasons, which i why i chose this sentence because it seems to me like no matter what book you read or who its by, they also make some reference to the seasons.

  9. Page 180, second paragraph "When our writers speak of harvests, we know it can refer only to agricultural but also to personal harvests, the results of our endeavors, whether over the course of a growing season of our life."I absolutely LOVED this sentence. It definately think that harvests can refer to something personal in our life not just agricultural. I agree with him one hundred percent because we all go through things in our life that happen in stages or seasons and when authors use phrases like "Frost crop is abundant" it doesn't necessarily mean that he has alot of corn in his field but that he's got alot of good things happening right now or that he is in the best stage of his life!

  10. page 184 "seasons can work magic on us, and writers can work magic with seasons". I agree with this sentence. I choose this sentence because i believe seasons make us have a certain mood and overall attitude. Different seasons have distinct effects on our life and how we feel, and authors use different seasons in stories to make us feel a certain way. I believe seasons are tools authors use to connect further with readers.

  11. page 177 "summer is passion and love; winter, anger and hatred." I really liked this sentence because it is what really happens in the world. Summer is for meeting new people on vacation or at the lake and is the highlight of most people's year. While the opposite is true of winter. Winter represents non-romantic and hatred because alot of people hate winter for the extremely cold temperatures.

  12. like a lot of the people on this page im going to use a line from page 177. she's all spring and sunshine, he's all frosty stiffness. this really shows how a woman or girl can be happy and friendly but somtimes a guy can still just shut them out. he seems to hide his feelings and try to be the stiff and strong stereotype that men seem to be.

  13. Page 184, "Seasons can work magic on us, and writers can work magic with seasons."

I agree with this sentence because it's so true. Seasons give people different moods and different emotions, painting a strong picture in their minds of love, hatred, friendship, and sorrow. The seasons are powerful imagery makers.
